I have been making pots professionally since leaving Anglia Ruskin University in 1999.
My workshop, Cossey's Yard. is a former thatcher's yard close to Salhouse Broad near Norwich, in Norfolk. U.K.
My rural location informs both the forms and surfaces of my pots. Observations are made from photographs and line drawings of the patterns formed by the effects of Man on the landscape.
Since working with a Thatcher as part of a "Creative Arts East" Bursary in 2005 I have been using re-cycled thatching reed as an integral part of my glazes.I enjoy the continuity of reusing the reed and the sense of place that it brings to my work.
I have made several study trips to Japan. In 2000 I was able to study in Mashiko with Hamada Tomo-o, Grandson of Hamada Shoji. A return trip to Mashiko in 2004 to study with Matsusaki Ken led to an invitation to participate in the 2007 workshop "Fantastic Fire" .
In 2009 I was the U.K. participant at I.W.C.A.T. 6 week residency in Tokoname, Japan.
This was an amazing opportunity to immerse myself in both Japanese culture and ceramics and led to participation in exhibitions at The Inax Tile Museum and at The Tokoname ceramics festival.
An invitation to exhibit again in Tokoname led to a return visit in October 2010, and work can currently be seen at Gallery CoCoLo, Sakaemachi, Tokoname, Japan.
